His sick!

Sadly now his sick! That's the way it goes frame one person in the house to the next I'm just hoping to get him feeling better sooner then I was. He like most men I think don't do well with being sick, even thought his been sick a lot the down time is still hard for him. The good thing is that his off work for a few days so he can hopefully do nothing and get better. The other good thing is that his very open to things like teas and other natural methods of healing to get better so he'll have his teas and that should help. Guess it's ok that as always we didn't have anything planed for the New Year's Eve, we just stay home becuase there are way to many crazy unsafe people out,and in truth it's not as fun I find for myself as it was when I was younger. That maybe becuase I have done the New Year's Eve partying thing and so I no longer feel this need to. It's just a date that we say is the start of the "New Year" but in truth if there are changes you want to do in life you can pick any day to do them and start that New Year for your self.

Pregnancy and a cold at the holidays

I had meet to post more throughout my pregnancy I just kind of gotten crazy busy!  So the up date I'm now 27 weeks ago, and things are over all going great! My mother has moved in with us and started at a new job that she is enjoying I have gone back to work very part time as well. It's nice to be back out a few days a week. But I'm still working on getting things put together so that once the little is here hopefully I'll be able to work from home, yes I like the idea of working somewhere very part time to pick me out in he world but, at the same time I want to be at home with my little one. But  reality is that more income does help. So  in between work and making things for my own little one and the holiday crazy of family I town I have been working on stock for shop.
Oh the holidays, they were great my husbands parents came in to town, so we have a full family  Christmas with them and my mother all here. So we took this time to reveal to them the name that we've chosen we did find out several weeks ago that we will be having a little girl. We just all in stockings from their granddaughter to be with her name in it. Reveal to them the name that we've chosen we did find out several weeks ago that we will be having a little girl. We just all in stockings from their granddaughter to be with her name in it. We knew that they would be happy to find out the name after all my mother in law has been asking every day for weeks what name we have picked. But we had no idea just how happy they would be with the cards, they found it to be the sweetes thing and they were just over joyed and that really made the day the best. But sadly I came down wth a bad cold on Christmas Day, now for people that done know there isn't much you can take for a cold with your  pregnant, but you can take only halfway knocks out sometimes. In many ways I'm OK with this I try to do more natural remedies anyway a lot of echinacea tea and lozenges and rest.  Because after all sometimes things just have to run their natural course, however my husband worries and doesn't feel this way so day four of me being sick he starts in on I have to go to the doctor sure enough I get up today and I'm doing so much better you don't always have to run to the doctor pregnant or not.  Yes there are times when you do and yes being more cautious when you're pregnant is important however for myself I have an extremely low risk pregnancy and I know there's nothing more they can give me steam out your head and rest. The major downside about being sick over the holidays with family in town is it does take some of the fun away for everyone else, as well as time away from working on things I desperately need to get done.  I have gotten one sheet for our bassinet made along with the pattern how to information photos and I'll coming shortly still have many diapers to make.  No I know there are many companies that you can buy cough diapers from as well as disposables, however I'm not choosing to use disposable diapers for a few reasons the detrimental to the environment as well as they're extremely expensive, Then there is  The fact that my husband and I both have extremely sensitive skin so the likelihood of our little one having sensitive skin is very high, so why not avoid chemicals as much as possible.  I did look into several of the companies that make cloth diapers that you can purchase and that's great if that's the route you want to do however I wasn't overly thrilled with what they were offering, so I decided to kind of do my own may as well put that education of mine to use,  information to Torio's on how I'm doing mine will be available shortly as well.

work ideas

I'm still working for work out side of the home, not because its my first choice but because part of me really feels that I need to. Along with a baby on the way my mother is going to be moving in with us. My husband has been great about that, my mother has CRPS and a long with that is in remission from breast cancer. The CRPS has made it very hard for her to work, making it hard for her to take care of living cost by her self. Even knowing this he has not once said anything bad about her moving in with us, that has meant so very much to me. But I know that the adding of a baby and my mother is a lot on him, it would be a lot even if I was working but with my not working I know its even harder. So I want to try and take that burden off of him in any way I can.

So with that I have been applying for out side work, but with that I'm looking at what I can do from home as well. Working on marking my etsy misschastains.etsy.com but also along with that I have decided to upload my photography to a stock photo site were I can hopeful sell my photos. Giving a lot of thought to maybe selling Avon, Mary Kay, or something a long those lines really anything that I can do to make money and help with this burden. I do really hope that things work out that I'm able to work from home because I know that in no way would working out side of it is going to be easy right now, the pregnancy has been really hard and I don't think its just because of the pregnancy but that its also my fibromyalgia just the mix of it has been hard this first three months with the morning sickness and the always being tired. Makes it hard for sure, people keep saying to me that its going to pass and Ill feel better soon and my hope is that I do, I'm worried that I may not that I may end up having more issues with my fibromyalgia as my pregnancy goes on, that one of the big reasons for wanting the thing to work that would mean I could work from home making it easier it stop when I need to something your not able to o working retail. As soon as I know what website Ill be putting photos on Ill be sharing it on here same with as soon as I know what product I will be sell Ill be sharing that as well. I know that with as long as I put in the work with a few things then it will work out. Its just going to take not only me making up my mind and sooner then later as well as putting in the work for it, that's really all I can do.

Pregnancy week 12

Being that everything was still going well when we saw the Doctor this week we decided to go ahead and actually announced to everyone. Before now we had only announced to our parents, and they were over the moon. But this was the week we told the world, the way that we decided to do that was with a photo, that I took.

I took this photo weeks ago and holding on to it with out sharing it was so hard but we did want to wait. In truth it was truly nice to wait and really just keeping it between us and our parents, we kept it from them for the first 8 weeks and that was great just us as a couple having that time to enjoy this great change in our life's.

The first 12 weeks have been some what hard on me. Morning sickness is a joke, the joke is the morning part.who ever thought that calling it morning was crazy it's more like an all day and some times the night to. But as I come to the end of my 12th week I have had more days with out being sick then being sick and for that I'm so thankful. I'm finally at the point where I have put to getting our  registry. I haven't stared doing to much sewing for the little one as it's still going to be a few weeks till we know some what for "sure" what the  gender  of our little one. However I have been doing a bit of crochetting things that are every  neutral, working on a bunting now in neutral colors tantalite like a spark teal in it. But in a few weeks I'll start on cloth diaper covers because yes I'm choosing to use cloth diapers, however I'm not planing on the costly new way but a mix of the older and newer way so why not make the covers and  inserts myself. I'll be adding a a blog with the steps use in a few weeks. Well I'm sure with some help from my mother.
After all she was so happy with the news she is moving to where we are to be closer and is going to be living with us for a time. I know a lot of people would see this a a bad thing but I see it as a great help in truth. Even with things going well getting more orders in on my etsy but not as much as when I was working full time do the truth is that I'm looking at going back to work. I hate the idea in truth so much I want to be able to stay at home with my child but if I can't I feel so much better know I have my mother here to help so I don't have to think about a day care, because with the cost of that it would cost what I would make from work and there would be no reason but also I hate the idea of putting a baby in daycare for someone other then family to look after. But I also know that with my mother here I may be able to do some other work from home things that would be my dream after all.

Pregnant

So this is the first time I'm putting it out there to the world that I'm pregnant. That's right my husband and I are   Expecting a little bundle of joy sometime in March. So obviously I told him first and I wanted to come up with some kind of a sweet way that represented us to tell him and let him know. Will is having spent so much of our  relationship apart due to his work we started actually writing letters to each other sometimes emails but usually actual physical letters. I would look forward to getting the mail and seeing what wonderful things he would write, so thinking about that  I decided to write a cute little letter telling him coming soon then he was going to be a daddy. Then it was how to give atone not just hears a note in the mail. But something he would find  because we continue to write letters and notes to each other and so it Christmas up stick them in his stocking when I go out of town I put them on his pillow so he finds it when he comes home. Which made me think of where can I put this one that he'll find it and Would be an oh my God.  So I thought where else to put it well he wear his ball caps almost every day has a very wide collection so I stuck the test under the bill of the hat and put the note in front of it, so that when he would go to get his hat for the day he would find it.  Sure enough he reached for a hat and found the news instead I've never seen him so happy it was a great moment for sure.

Chickenpox update

We have been very lucky I have to say. Even with Michael having the chickenpox they haven't been to bad and o think that's because as soon as the spots came up we were at the ER with in two days of seeing them. I do wish we had gotten the in a day earlier, but we frist thought it was a reaction to new laundry detergent. But the antiviral meds really do make a big difference. However it's still been hard to get sewing work done and taking care of him making sure he takes the meds five times a day. But some how between making soup and making sure his getting enough fluid along with applying lots of calamine lotion. I was able to get some things crocheted, ironically a pair of baby mittens to keep from scratching very vintage style
They are a very light blue and I love the way they came out, soft and sweet. The other thing I was able to make was a pair of little booties in a mint green with a lilac trim and yellow tie.

They Match the little sweater that I finished a few days ago.
It's funny who they look so different in color, light really does make a difference they're made out of the exact same skein of yarn. In person they match completely it's all about the color when you taking photos.
Even with not being able to hid away on my sewing room it's nice to be able to create somethings. Keep an eye out for this or other new things added to the shop misschastains.etsy.com

ER visit

So we had an ER visit tonight when Michael came home from work. Sadly he has chickenpox, now they suck when your a kid but can be deadly as an adult. But thank god we got him in to the hospital early and come meds. I just hope that they help and that it's not to bad for him. Now you maybe asking how did he get them, he had got and gotten the chickenpox vaccine and ended up getting chickenpox from that, something we didn't know could happen becuase his Dr. Didn't tell us that but here we are, and I'm just hoping that it's not to bad for him.

Growing food from "scraps "

NSo I decided that I would regrow my green onions from the ends that I would typically cut off and throw away. I did cut them a little bit longer than I normally would however I'm pretty sure this would work just fine if I had cut them smaller as well. I forgot to take a picture of them yesterday when I first did them, but here they are date to and they are already starting to get green centers and sprout new life so they will be going into the garden shortly went through a little bit more Stabley.
The first picture is of the routes and the second picture is from looking down on them

To do this yourself is really easy you can do this with salary as well the end that you cut off and normally would just doorway you place it in a cup or a Nother dish with some water covering the root system that is there and wait a few days. What you end up getting is a nice start to a plant of something that you are going to purchase again and using your kitchen so now you can grow it yourself.

New sweeter

Crazy as it is to a lot of people because it's still summer but I'm making sweaters of all kinds. This is the adult one that I just finished in a great sea blue with grey trim. I have been crocheting a lot of baby this this summer but this is the first adult thing I have crocheted, and I have to say this is one of my favorite sweaters I have made in along time. But in a few days I'll take some good photos my husband did take one do that I can share it but the workroom is sadly closed to me right now as the a/c is still out. So much sure you keep looking back at my etsy shop for this sweeter and other new things as they are always being added🙂.
Coming soon to the shop misschastains.etsy.com

baby dress

I don't know if its the age that I am or just the fact that all my friends are married, but the ones that don't have kids are starting to have kids. As always I make something for the new one. I am not one to go off a registry but then I am also not one to do a registry list, I didn't when I got married. People think its crazy but for me I don't like asking people to give me something and tell them what to get me. Part of that I know comes from growing up with my grandma that was in truth very much so a women from the hills, and she really put in to me that you don't ask for gifts. If someone wants to give you something great but when you ask you are now beholding to them. I wasn't even one to wright letters to Santa never one to do list for my birthdays. Even now as an adult when people ask me what I want I am lots and I hate asking get me this. I do believe that if some one wants to give me something then whatever they want to give me is great because they are giving from the heart. So when my friends friend's have kids I always make them something, usually layette sets and or a blanket or both.
But this time when my friend Chris's wife is having their first baby, I decided to sew something not crochet something partly because the time of year that the baby is due, its still going to be summer and hot for a few months after. So a layette set just didn't seam like it was going to be the best. But still wanting to make something I decided to sew a cute little vintage inspired cotton dress. Its a flowy cotton that will be good for summer and then if it does turn cooler they can always add a sweeter with it, but its also something that they can keep and use if they have other baby that happens to be a girl or keep it and she can use it as a doll dress.

I have to say I love the way it came out, its just so cute and sweet. I am sure that they will love it as well and that's what is great. But when I was all done with it I thought I have to make other one and maybe even a few more in other fabrics to add to my etsy shop I do have one up there now that is in a fabric that's card suits, but that's not everyone's cup of tea for their baby girl. So some flower or other cute fabrics will be coming soon!! But I did have fabric to make other one just like this one I made for my friend so there is this one available now!!
So as always take a look at my etsy shop misschastains.etsy.com

stormy day

A stormy day  here in Louisiana, as it is a lot this time of year. But that just means I am spending my day doing things inside and not in the garden. I have to say I do love being homely doing things in my home, making muffins  for my husband to take to the radio in the morning. Then making a delicious take on French onion soup adding mushrooms to it, giving it a bit more bite to it. But with it still being so early in the day that means I'll be working on a corset for etsy, and some other things as well. A few crochet things to go up on the next few days, but a new blue and white corset in a waist size 29inchs will be up in the next day or two.

But back to the soup and here it is, its going to be a great dinner. I truly love making food

muffins, I made Cinnamon Strudel and Banana Nut

Thoughts of years

As I sit here on this rainy day crocheting, it occurs to me that I've been at this particular art form for about 22 years. I remember learning how to crochet from my grandmother when I was eight years old. Going with her to her crochet group of other older women sitting around learning how to make perfect stitches the pain of when they've ripped something out because five rows back there was some sticks that wasn't right until my stitches were completely perfect and even every time. For them it was important that my stitches be perfect that I take pride in what I was doing. You see these were the kind of women that crocheted or knitted just about everything that their families wore the coasters in their home their dish towels so than being perfect was a reflection of them and their abilities and they wanted to pass that onto me. Oddly enough they really did I take great pride in that everything I make has Even perfect stitches they come out right did they fit perfectly well. It's interesting that after all this time when I don't know what to make when I'm unsure of something when I go back to is making the layette sets that I started with. It's interesting that as I make them I sit here I can close my eyes and think of these women talking about how useful this will be when I married how important this will be, and it is important after all I crocheted part of my wedding dress because I was another aspect of me. But truly it has become very important, as a start to make my coasters for my home curtains all of the skills that I learned from these women the little life lessons is by stitch to come back to me, and I find myself on a rainy day like today cherishing the hours I spent with the name with all of those women they all became like grandmothers to me they all helped shape me. It's interesting I think it's because of all the time with these women that i'm different than other women of my own age and generatio I value  doing things in my home for my family I'm excited about starting a garden growing my own food making things for my home for my husband maybe one day for children. I take as much pride and pleasure in it as I know these women did, and I see nothing wrong with it I don't see it as backward I see it is who I am and no need to be anything different.

I cut off my hair

There's just something so liberating about picking up a pair of scissors and chopping off your hair. Realizing that it's only hair it doesn't truly define you you can change it to color it cut it put extensions in, or whatever the mood really strikes you. I've done this before and yes I do do it myself when I feel like I want to cut it I usually just pick up the scissors and start cutting away until it's something that I light. This should be interesting it's the first time that I've done this since I've been married my husband went to work today and I had hair a little bit past my shoulders and now I have this I know he won't mind after all he did meet me when my hair was this short.
Especially as an artist I feel that it's important for me to be true to myself, I feel some point for everyone to be true to themselves whatever that means for you

Painting

So with all of my sewing stuff Packed and ready to move, I have been crocheting for something to do. After all lord knows I can't have something going, but today I decided to take a break from sewing or crocheting when I looked over and saw that my husband's painting things are still not packed up so I thought I paint a little and this is what I came up with today just for something a little different it's always good to express your self in different mediums I think.

As always don't forget to visit my etsy shop you never know what could be there misschastains.etsy.com

DIY chair recovering

What a past few months it has been, crazy and all in a great way. We bought a house , and it may seam like a crazy time but I quit my job. I know that for most people you may be thing why did I do that but you see, not only was the hours that I was doing playing a role in my heath not being great but it was also taking a big toll on my marriage. You may be asking your self why that is well I was working 40 plus hours a week and bringing home a lot of stress, which was putting a lot of stress on my very new marriage. To me the money wasn't worth hurting my marriage so I had to decide what to do and quitting was what was right for us. But the timing wasn't as great as it could have been because as I said we just bought a home.

That really means that I want to do as many DIY things as I can for the new home painting myself  planning my Garden making curtains but first was my chairs. My kitchen table is in great shape and for the most part as were the chairs, but they were a light blue that didn't go with any thing that we are doing in the house. There were a few things I could have done one would be to just live with it, two would be to buy a chair slip cover, but that would mean coving up the wood so that left me with option three re-covering the seat. So that's what I did and here are the step by steps on how to do this same kind of thing to your chairs.

What I started with my chair

what else you need the fabric that you what to use about 1/2 a yard for each chair of 60 inch wide, a screwdriver to take your seat off, staple gun, scissors, paper you may need tape if your paper isn't as wide and your seat plus 3 inches all around, a ruler, pins and a pencil

I picked up my fabric at a fabric store that's going out of business so I was able to get a good deal on it, however if you doing have a whole sale fabric store or one that's going out of business, then you'll want to get the Hobby Lobby app and or the JoAnn's app, so that you can get the coupons that they both offer . after all if your like me and you are covering 6 chairs that's  3 yards of fabric and that can add up and the idea of a DIY is to save money.

So now that you have everything that you need to get started here is how to do it

first take your seat off the chair this is the first time you will need that screwdriver. its also a great time to do a deep cleaning of your chair.
if your paper is not as lager as your seat with about 2-3 inches all around, this is when you'll want to tape your paper together as shown

now that your have aped your paper together, place your seat flat side down cushion side up on your paper use your pencil to trace around

when its down it should look something like this, after you have the first tracing down  that's when you will take your ruler and add an extra 2 -3 inches  how much will depend on how thick your seat cushions are I started with 2 inches when found that 3 inches was easier to work with. ones you have traces out your pattern, you'll want to wright on it what it is, how many you need to cut as in one per-seat, and your name along with a grain line. once you have done that your ready to cut out your paper pattern.

then place your pattern on your wrong side of your fabric and pin it.

next is to cut your fabric out it should look something like your seat now. It's now cover your seat.

you'll want to put your fabric right side down putting your cushion seat side down on the wrong side of the fabric. Now its time for your staple gun, you'll want to start by cantering your cushion on your fabric, pulling up one side of the fabric to the back side of the seat stapling it down as you pull it so that its flat, then do the other side starting in the center working your way out making sure that your fabric is smooth on the front side, then you'll want to start at center of the bottom of the seat working your way to the corners were you'll want to pull tight and tucking the corners flat as you

staple them down, then you'll do the same at the top. So that when its done it should look something like this on the back side.

Now its time to put it all back together!!

This whole project should take you part of an afternoon, to do depending on how many chairs you have to do. I did 6 chairs used about 2 1/2 yards of 60inch fabric, fully cleaned all the wood made the pattern and it took me about 3 hours.

Now its time for you to try it your self and enjoy! pick in mind that you don't have to cover all your chairs in the same fabric if you want to change it up a bit you may want to do a few chairs in one fabric and a few in other, or even each chair in a different fabric have fun with it you can always change it!!

Hope that this helps you in doing your own covers, make sure you come back and read for more DIY projects. If your wanted a blog on something specific that you don't see let me know and I'll do one.

Soon I'll have some ready-made course it's in the shop as well as petticoats and dresses so keep your eye out. Misschastains.etsy.com

New dress form

I'm so happy I order a ne dress form a few days ago. To my happy surprise it arrived today three days earlier than what shipping said!! It's great getting the new equipment to really follow my passion and do the things I love. There is nothing like the right kind of form when doing drapping work. But as I look at my new form I'm unsure what to call her, you yes I like to name my dress form so that I can talk to her as I do my work. But the right name hasn't come to me just as of yet. So here she is I can't wait till I start a new drap!!

Turning 30

Today is a bit of a hard day, it's a dear friends 30th birthday I should be able to share this with him, but because of his addiction I can't. Who is there for me so much when we were teenagers my closest friend my true confidant. And the fact that I haven't been able to share any of the good things going on in my life from really my wedding to a job promotion to my husband and I buying a home, my 30th birthday last month these are the hardest things about that. For me my 30th birthday was a very happy time I know a lot of people take it hard. But for me it was a sigh relief, you see when I was younger involved in a genetics study. With my brothers who have ADHD and mental illness during this genetic study the question was asked what does this all mean for me they have the markers so do I, what we were told that we cross our fingers and Tom a teenager, and if nothing at that time cross I'm still in Tom about 30 and then will know I'm not going to have the same issue. Not by all right that doesn't mean I don't have issues you grow up with crazy and you end up with issues mostly trusted anxiety but not the same as everything else. It's sad that the person that was there for me when my brothers were at the craziest chose to become an addict is out of my life and I can't share any of my good things with now and I miss him terribly I only hope that one day he'll get clean but the friend I had always be Gone no matter what. It's this that kills me see there's a part of me that feels like I let him down, missed his problems while he was helping me survive mine now he's lost and there's nothing I can do.

New line

So I have paired with adobewellnessacademy.com so create a unique one-of-a-kind jewelry out of 100% cotton. They were really a lot of fun to make, I love working with the natural fibers. There is just something about it that's adds a little peace I find. All of the jewelry is one of a kind and completely unique. Not only is the natural fibers easy to care for they are easy to wear and very light weight. I find that collaboration, is a great way to grow beyond oneself. So this line you will find not on my etsy shop but at adobewellnessacademy.com here is some of the Collection, so go take a look and see what else is there as well

Enjoying holiday clothing

I truly do enjoy making and wearing fun and out there outfits for every holiday. But with my weight having gone down then now back up I didn't have any that fit so I have had to start making all new ones not that I really mine much. I get so tired of wearing things like everyone else so even for my work clothes that have to be black or black and white I make things in stlyes that are more me, dresses that are in the late 1940's thur the mid 1950's are what I like. And not the take on the new look that's out now that the skirts are above the knee but the real vintage looks becuase that's what I feel most comfortable in and so I see no reason to wear what other think I should I enjoy just being me!
So here is the new holiday dress

Crocheting

So I have started making things that fit 18inch dolls, you know the kind that are like American girls and that you can now get at all the big box stores. What I'm starting with are crocheted outfits but sewing patt runs and sewn outfits will be coming soon. One of the rings that I'm working on are historical outfits, but that's to come for right now it's crochet!
